Iron Kin

Iron Kin In testing

A non-violent steampunk puzzle: rescue robots by reshaping the factory.

You play a maintenance robot sent into a vast steampunk factory to lead its little worker robots out. They won't take orders — they drift toward you, get drawn off by patrolling guards, and wander back to their routines if you leave them behind. There is nothing to fight. Your tools are the crates you push and the rooms you reshape with them.

You

Faster than the robots it rescues, and that is the whole tension: walk too far ahead and the group falls apart. It cannot fight and cannot give orders — it pushes crates and chooses where to stand.

Guard

Guard

An obstacle, never an enemy

Walks a painted route and never strays from it. Kin that wander too close fall in behind it and go back to work. It cannot be fought — only blocked, avoided, or blinded with a cardboard box.

Plain Kin

Plain Kin

Nothing bolted on

Comes along when you are close and stays put when you are not. The one the others are measured against.

Eager Kin

Eager Kin

The beak

Notices you from across the room and walks at your heel. First through every door — and first to follow you into trouble.

Nervous Kin

Nervous Kin

Arms out to either side

Short reach, hangs well back, and slow to trust you again once it loses you. A guard turns its head more easily than you do. It is the one still standing where you left it.

Slow Kin

Slow Kin

The heavy skirt

Notices you as readily as any of them, then cannot keep up. The group moves at its pace.

Restless Kin

Restless Kin

The plate on its head

Will not stand still when nothing is pulling it. It strolls about the spot where you left it, so it is never quite where you put it.
